Artisan's Cottage Maldon

Artisans Cottage, High Street Maldon was the MEHBT's inaugural project.

The 1830's Grade 2 Listed Building had been empty and neglected for over 30 years. Following a £72,000 contract by Colin Sach (Builders) Ltd, managed by the MEHBT in 1998, designs by Hilary Brightman Conservation Architect brought the building back into sustainable use.

The dwelling was returmed to the community as it was converted to a single persons residence and sold to a local Housing Association.

Even today, the Architectural Heritage Fund use our images to convey how Building Preservation Trusts such as ours can revevate local communities by strategic and careful use of sound conservation policy.

We also commissioned an AHF funded Feasibility Study for 144 High Street Maldon, and negotiations are still ongoing after 4 years.
